SoftQuad HoTMetaL Pro
Introduction
Course Objectives

You will learn how to create a basic web site using HoTMetaL Pro tools, including Hyperlinks, Images, Tables and use of the HoTMetaL Pro web site Management tools. Also, you will learn how to publish a web site onto the Internet or an Intranet.

Pre-requisites Delegates should be familiar with basic Windows 95 or above operation.

Getting Started
Starting HoTMetaL Pro and working with the windows, toolbars, elements and attribute inspector

Text Editing
Working with pages within HoTMetaL Pro including entering, editing and formatting text within a page, and previewing and saving a page.

Page Background
Formatting and background of pages with images and colours, and defining default colours for text.

Working with Images
Including images within pages and setting their properties.

Hyperlinks
Creating and editing Hyperlinks from text and images.

Tables
Creating and formatting tables.

Web Site Management
Creating a Project and using the Project views to manage your web site.

Publishing
Uploading a web site to and Internet or Intranet server.

Advanced
Course Objectives

This course is designed to instruct you how to use the advanced HTML features of HoTMetaL Pro 5. You will learn how to submit your web site to Search Engines properly on the World Wide Web and ensure it is indexed effectively. You will also add to the web site created in the HoTMetaL Pro 5 Basic course, creating a medium-sized web site with Hyperlinks targeting positions within pages from hot-spots on images, Cascading Style Sheets formatting the whole web site, forms to obtain information from visitors to your site and reassembling the web site to make use of Frames.

Pre-requisites

Delegates should be familiar with the basic functions of HoTMetal Pro 6 including Formatting Text, Inserting Images, Creating Hyperlinks, Creating and Formatting Tables, Creating and Using a Project and Publishing a Web Site.

Platform Windows 95+

Search Engines
Controlling how a web site is indexed by a Search Engine using <META> tags and page formatting.

Cascading Style Sheets
Using inline, embedded and external stylesheets to change the formatting characteristics of HTML tags and creating custom formatting using CLASS and ID.

Image Maps
Defining areas of an image as Hyperlinks.

Bookmarks
Creating anchors within HTML files and targeting them with internal and external Hyperlinks.

Forms
Gathering information from visitors to a web site with forms.

Advanced Tables
Using nested tables to create complex and interesting page layouts.

Frames
Using Frames to control the content of pages areas.
