This course is designed to provide you with the basics of
creating and editing vector graphics in Adobe Illustrator.
You will learn when to use vector graphics rather than bit-mapped,
how to use the comprehensive selection of drawing
tools, building up an illustration with objects and using
type in illustrations.
Pre-requisites
Delegates should have a basic understanding
of using Windows 95 or above or Apple Macintosh OS8 or above.

Understanding Vector Graphics and Encapsulated PostScript
(EPS) and how they compare with bit-mapped graphics.
Illustrator Basics
The main window, the Toolbox, Palettes, opening and saving
illustrations, changing the view.
Tools
The Tools available for creating illustrations: Creation,
Selection, Type, Pen, Freehand, Brush and Eye Dropper.
Objects
Creating Objects in illustrations: Rectangle, Ellipses, Polygons,
Lines and Bezier Curves.
Colour
Applying colour to Objects and controlling their Borders.
Editing Objects
Making modifications to an illustration: Adding and Deleting
Points, and modifying Curves.
Working with Type
Using Type Styles, Hanging Punctuation, Leading, Kerning,
creating Text on a Path and Tabulation.

Course Objectives
This course is designed to provide you with an advanced knowledge
of Adobe Illustrator and its tools. You will learn how
to use Layers to control an illustration, working with colour,
creating graphs, using masks, compound paths, filters, combining
bit-mapped graphics with vector objects and creating different
file types.
Pre-requisites
Delegates should be familiar with Adobe Illustrator and
its basic operation including understanding vector graphics,
the standard drawing tools, working with objects and type
tools.

Creating a layered illustration, using layers and hiding and
grouping layers.
Advanced Colour
Creating custom colours, understanding Process and Spot colour,
and controlling Trapping of adjacent coloured objects.

Gradient fills.
Graphs
Using Illustrator’s Graphing tools to create and edit Graphs.
Transformation Tools
Dragging, Scaling, Rotating, Reflecting, Shearing and Blending
Objects.
Masks and Compound Paths
Using Masks in an Illustration and creating transparent areas
of an illustration with Compound Paths.
Filters
Using the Ink Pen, Gallery Pen and Gallery Effects.
Importing and Exporting
Importing bit-mapped graphics into an illustration and associated
issues, and Exporting as different file types.
