Adobe InDesign
Introduction
Course Objectives

This course is designed to provide you with the basics of Desk Top Publishing using Adobe InDesign. You will learn how to create a document containing text and graphics, and how to use the document functions of InDesign to control the document.

Pre-requisites Delegates should have a basic understanding of using Windows 95 or above or Apple Macintosh OS8 or above.
Platform

Windows 95+, Mac OS8+.

InDesign Basics
The InDesign window, tools and palettes.

Page Setup
Creating a new document, defining the page size and making use of Rulers and Gridlines to help create accurate page layouts.

Working with Text
Entering, modifying and formatting text, using the Find and Change function and flowing text through a multi-page document.

Working with Images
Importing image files and modifying them in a page.

Working with Objects
Selecting and grouping Objects, grouping, nesting, scaling, rotating, moving and arranging Objects.

Document Layout
Managing pages within a multi-page document, creating and deleting pages.

Master Pages
Defining standard page layouts with Master Pages, creating Running Headers and Footers and Automatic Page Numbering.

Colour
Using colour within pages and creating custom colours.

Printing
Printing a document, screening, resolution, preflighting and packaging for sending to a prepress bureau.

Adobe InDesign
Advanced
Course Objectives

This course is designed to further your knowledge of InDesign and understand the more advanced features. You will learn how to use the Bezier tools, stylesheets to control the formatting of a document and understand the advanced aspects of colour required to produce high quality colour documents.

Pre-requisites

Delegates should be familiar with the basic operation of InDesign including setting up a document, adding page items to a page, inserting text and images, using master pages and applying colour to objects and text.

Platform Windows 95+, Mac OS8+.

Typography
Setting up Hyphenation and Justification rules, hanging punctuation, kerning and tracking.

Style Sheets
Using style sheets to format text and update formatting automatically. Using Nested Styles.

Tabulation
Defining and using tab stops to align text.

Tables
Creating and formatting tables.

Drawing Tools
Creating and editing Bezier lines and shapes, and creating text on a curved path.

Advanced Colour
Understanding Spot and Process colours, controlling Trapping and creating Colour Separations.

Export Options
Exporting to HTML for the World Wide Web, PostScript, Encapsulated PostScript and PDF for print.
