Adobe PageMaker
Introduction
Course Objectives

This course is designed to provide you with a basic knowledge of Desk Top Publishing using Adobe PageMaker. You will learn how to create a document containing text and graphics, flow text automatically and how to use the document functions of PageMaker to control the document.

Pre-requisites Delegates should have a basic understanding of using Windows 95 or above or Apple Macintosh OS8 or above.

PageMaker Basics
Creating a new document, using Rulers and Guides to help create accurate page layouts and changing the display of the page.

Working with Page Objects
Drawing and modifying Frames and Page Elements, selecting and grouping Page Objects, and managing objects on different layers.

Working with Text
Entering, modifying and formatting text, importing text from word-processed files, using the Find and Change function and flowing text through a multi-page document.

Working with Images
Importing image files and modifying them in a page.

Document Layout
Managing pages within a multi-page document, creating and deleting pages.

Colour
Using colour within pages and creating custom colours and tints.

Printing
Printing a document to a printer and using custom Print Styles for output devices.

Adobe PageMaker
Intermediate
Course Objectives

This course is designed to further your knowledge of Adobe PageMaker and understand some of the powerful text controls. You will also learn how to use style sheets to control the formatting of a document, simple modification of images from within PageMaker and use of some of the plug-ins provided with the application.

Pre-requisites

Delegates should be familiar with the basic operation of Adobe PageMaker including setting up a document, adding objects to a page, inserting text and images and applying colour to objects and text.

Platform Windows 95+, Mac OS8+.

Text Formatting
Using Indents and controlling automatic Tracking and Kerning of text.

Text Control
Controlling Hyphenation and Justification of text.

Tabulation
Defining and using tab stops to align text and using leaders.

Style Sheets
Creating and using style sheets to format text.

Image Control
Changing the Brightness and Contrast of an image within a document and modifying the Halftone Screen.

Links
Managing imported objects and their Links to original files.

Plug-ins
Adding Continued Lines for text flow between pages, Bullets and Numbering of paragraphs, creating Drop Caps and Balancing Columns.

Adobe PageMaker
Advanced
Course Objectives

This course is designed to give you advanced knowledge of Adobe PageMaker to enable you to create complex documents containing professional graphic features and automated creation of Indexes and Table of Contents. You will also learn how to create files ready for output by a Commercial Printer on high-end imaging equipment and understand their specific needs.

Pre-requisites

Delegates should be familiar with the basic and intermediate operation of Adobe PageMaker including setting up a document, adding page items to a page, inserting text and images, applying colour to objects and text, and using style sheets to format text.

Platform Windows 95+, Mac OS8+.

Table Editor
Creating and modifying tabular matter within a page.

Advanced Document Functions
Creating an Index and Table of Contents from document text.

Advanced Plug-ins
The Grid Manager and creating Running Headers and Footers.

Preparing Documents for Commercial Printers
Understanding the principles and need of Commercial Printing including Colour Separation, Bleeds and Collecting Files for Output by a Commercial Printer.

Advanced Typographic Control
Controlling the Trapping of coloured objects.
