QuarkXPress
Introduction
Course Objectives

This course is designed to provide you with the basics of Desk Top Publishing using QuarkXPress. You will learn how to create a document containing text and graphics, and how to use the document functions of QuarkXPress to control the document.

Pre-requisites Delegates should have a basic understanding of using Windows 95 or above or Apple Mactintosh OS8 or above.
Platform

Windows 95+, Mac OS8+.

QuarkXPress Basics
Creating a new document, adding text and pictures boxes onto the page and importing text from word processed files into a page.

Page Setup
Defining the page size and making use of Rulers and Gridlines to help create accurate page layouts.

Working with Text
Entering, modifying and formatting text, using the Find and Change function and flowing text through a multi-page document.

Working with Images
Importing image files and modifying them in a page.

Working with Page Items
Selecting and grouping Page Items, running text around items and managing items on different layers.

Document Layout
Managing pages within a multi-page document, creating and deleting pages.

Master Pages
Defining standard page layouts with Master Pages, creating Running Headers and Footers and Automatic Page Numbering.

Colour
Using colour within pages and creating custom colours.

Printing
Printing a document to a printer and using custom Print Styles for output devices.

QuarkXPress
Intermediate
Course Objectives

This course is designed to further your knowledge of QuarkXPress and understand some of the powerful text controls. You will also learn how to use the Bezier tools, stylesheets to control the formatting of a document and understand the advanced aspects of colour required to produce high quality colour documents.

Pre-requisites

Delegates should be familiar with the basic operation of QuarkXPress v4 including setting up a document, adding page items to a page, inserting text and images, using master pages and applying colour to objects and text.

Platform Windows 95+, Mac OS8_+.

Preferences
Setting up Typesetting Preferences and controlling automatic Tracking and Kerning of text.

Tabulation
Defining and using tab stops to align text.

Bezier Tools
Creating and editing Bezier lines and shapes, and creating text on a curved path.

Master Pages
Working with multiple Master Pages.

Text Control
Anchoring text boxes, using the Baseline Grid and controlling Hyphenation and Justification of text.

Style Sheets
Creating and using style sheets to format text.

Colour
Creating colour blends, understanding Spot and Process colours, controlling Trapping and creating Colour Separations.

Document Functions
Using Libraries and saving as Encapsulated PostScript.

QuarkXPress
Advanced
Course Objectives

This course is designed to give you advanced knowledge of QuarkXPress to enable you to create complex documents containing professional graphic features and automated creation of Indexes and Table of Contents. You will also learn how to create files ready for output by a Commercial Printer on high-end imaging equipment and understand their specific needs.

Pre-requisites

Delegates should be familiar with the basic and intermediate operation of QuarkXPress including setting up a document, adding page items to a page, inserting text and images, applying colour to objects and text, using the Bezier tools, multiple master pages and using style sheets to format text.

Platform Windows 95+, Mac OS8+.

Clipping Paths
Creating cut-outs of images using Clipping Paths and editing Clipping Paths both created with QuarkXPress and imported with images.

Advanced Text Control
Creating and modifying text runarounds from Clipping Paths and running text inside an image.

Advanced Document Functions
Creating an Index and Table of Contents from document text.

Document Management
Dealing with missing Image and Font files using the Usage facility.

Print Controls
Producing Printers Pairs and Readers Pairs.

Preparing Documents for Commercial Printers
Understanding the principles and need of Commercial Printing including Colour Separation, Bleeds and Collecting Files for Output by a Commercial Printer.
